The theme for BlueTech Forum 2023 is Innovation with Impact. We will feature extraordinary and provocative speakers delivering high-quality content, a showcase of innovative and disruptive companies and technologies, and plenty of time for targeted networking.
There is a 3-year arc to the BlueTech Forum Conference that is emerging organically. At BlueTech Forum 2022, Vancouver, we set out to be vocational and inspirational, with a theme of Radical Collaboration for Regeneration. As we looked out over the Pacific Ocean at the forest and the mountains, we began by defining the vision, in the roundtables, and Visioning Workshop led by Annyse Balkwill; people got to create things, using arts and crafts to help build a model of the vision they had in their heads. Reminding us of the value of playfulness; it unlocks creativity and builds social cohesion and trust, a critical cornerstone for radical collaboration.
Next, we turn inspiration into action as we take the conference to Edinburgh, Scotland. A country that is renowned as the birthplace of many great scientific innovations that had profound impacts on society. Including the Macintosh raincoat, the steam engine, the telephone, the television, and penicillin, the latter only topped by sanitation and drinking water treatment in terms of the number of lives it has saved.
The next step in this arc is to look at the role innovation plays in turning our visions into reality. We commence BlueTech Masterclass sessions where critical insights on industry trends will be shared and discussed with BlueTech Analysts and experts. The goal is to distill, excite, inform, contextualize, intrigue, and demystify. We then transition into our Innovating for Impact Workshop Tables built around key ambitious shared goals that can we rally around and collaborate towards. The goal is to illuminate, catalyze, and inspire by shining a light on the beacons, sharing case studies, best practices, and learnings.
We want to set lofty goals, and these are some of the ones we have been working on so far:
- Transitioning from energy-consuming to energy-neutral wastewater treatment: The revolution may not be televised, but it’s happening.
- Reducing Water Leakage from 30% to 10%: Equivalent to finding 20% more water, with 20% less energy and carbon emissions.
- Reducing household per capita water from 200 l per person per day to 50 l per person per day.
- Shifting from the mindset of salt disposers to brine-miners at desalination and ZLD facilities.
- Adopting enabling solutions that up-cycle raw materials we are provided with, such as nutrients and volatile fatty acids into products that become part of a circular economy
- Closing the loop on industrial water cycles and embracing decentralized water reuse systems.
- Embracing hybrids of BlueGreen, Grey, and digital solutions.
As we embrace these new paradigms, we move from being water takers to water leavers. These are the types of outcomes we are seeking when we innovate for impact.
We look forward to your participation in May 2023!
