The 10th Global Leakage Summit is coming to London again on 25-26 June 2019, with pre-conference workshops on 24 June.
Join us to meet our line-up of world-class UK and international water utility speakers, who will share their experiences on how they are meeting their specific challenges of reducing leakage and satisfying demand - challenges of meeting regulatory targets and customer expectations in networks with ageing infrastructure and continual bursts, and with external pressures on the network caused by climate change, drought and natural disasters.
Sessions will include panel discussions on topical issues, case study results and examples of how latest technologies and concepts have evolved to meet the challenges of monitoring the network and prioritising areas for inspection - managing, and, more importantly, analysing and using, all the network sensor data available.
The Summit agenda will focus on issues that are crucial for addressing policies and practices for reducing leakage - both in UK and globally - over the next few years. Agenda highlights and discussion topics include:
- The effects of climate change, population migration, drought and high demand in water scarce regions. How do water operators cope in such extremes? How do they maintain sustainability of supply in countries like China, Brazil and Philippines - megacities with mega populations?
- What lessons for customer demand management can we learn from the 2018 drought in Cape Town - which almost reached 'day zero' for water supply?
- The UK water industry has to meet increasingly stringent leakage targets over the next 30 years. Can they halve leakage by 2050? Is zero leakage a future reality or just a pipedream?
- The technology companies are going to play a major part in helping companies to meet their leakage targets. What will it take in terms of advances in sensor and communication technology, pipe material and pipe repair technology to get even anywhere near zero?
- Technology convergence - is the industry converging on certain technologies? How do we best leverage emerging AI and 5G/NB-IOT communications for network automation and control - and integrated sensor management - to provide 'one picture'?
- Trunk main leakage - always the difficult one! How are companies progressing with better ways of monitoring, identifying and fixing the leaks in big pipes?
- Calming the network to prevent transients. We hear how transient analysis can help to identify anomalies faster to prevent bursts. Could 'dynamic network areas' be the next generation DMAs - dynamically adaptive networks?
- With innovative customer monitoring technology are we nearer to better understanding the balance between customer use, supply pipe leakage and internal plumbing losses?
- If we have customer billing and consumption history can we find the optimal time to replace customer meters?
