Water supply and wastewater utilities have to meet the challenges of cost saving/minimization, reduction of carbon footprint and high performance of their services. Effective asset management contributes into these goals through design of energy efficient infrastructure and processes, implementation of monitoring and control schemes and utilization and/or generation of renewable energy carriers. Enhancement of energy efficient water and wastewater systems is a multi disciplinary task, bringing together scientists from different fields (engineers, economists, chemists, environmentalists etc) and sectors (academic, public and private).
