Professor Alemayehu Haddis Getahun (BSc, Meng, PhD)
Dr. Alemayehu Haddis Getahun is an associate professor at the Department of Environmental Health sciences, Institute of Health, Jimma University – Ethiopia, with over 28 years of teaching research and community service experience in the field of water, sanitation and environmental engineering.
His educational career starts with a diploma in sanitary science from the then Gondar college of medical Sciences, BSc in Environmental Health from Jimma University, Master of Engineering in Environmental Management from IHE Delft, the Netherlands, and PhD in Chemical - Environmental Engineering from the University of Leuven (KU Leuven) Belgium.
Dr Alemayehu Haddis has served Jimma University and his country at various capacitates. He has served as head of the school of Environmental health and took the lead in opening regular degree and masters program in this field. He is one of the front line experts in revising and leading Community Based Education – an innovative and unique educational philosophy of Jimma University. Currently, he is working as director of the training and consultancy of the Institute of Health.
Dr Alemayehu Has over 20 publications in international reputable Journals and a number of presentations on national and international scientific conferences. He has won grants and runs collaborative projects in Ethiopia. His research interest is in water and wastewater treatment technologies, Urban Sanitation, and pollution prevention.
