Dr. Awadis Arslan is a soil physics and salinity expert at the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid zones and Dry lands. He was appointed many research and administration positions: principal researcher, Deputy Director of Natural Resources, Director of Natural Resources Research, Deputy Director General and Director General of the General Commission for Scientific Agricultural Research. He has a Ph D in Soil Physics, minor in Hydrology from the University of Arizona, USA. His dissertation title is “modelling water quality for soils containing gypsic horizons”. He taught under graduate courses at Aleppo University, and Graduate and under graduate course at Damascus University, Syria. He works on planning and executing research projects for improving and development crop production, studies on soil physics and salinity, conserving and reclaiming soils and climate changes. He has over 50 publications in refereed international journals. He attended many workshops and symposiums and has over 50 papers in proceedings. He has been advisor for over 30 MS and PhD students in and outside the country. He was the national coordinator of many funded projects and has been in many committees. He is a peer reviewer of many journals and editing committee of 2 journals.
