Binyam Asfaw, Hydraulic Engineer at BRL Ingenierie

Mr Binyam Workeye Asfaw is a registered Practicing Hydraulic Engineer. His expertise range from water management infrastructure modeling and design in the areas of irrigation and drainage, flood protection and control, road drainage and small hydro-power schemes. 

Currently he is working at BRL Ingenierie at the position of Hydraulic Engineer and Team Leader for River Training and Flood Protection works for Ribb Irrigation and Drainage Design and Construction Supervision Project and Megech Serabah Pump Irrigation and Drainage Design and Construction Project; Financed by the World Bank. 

Major work activities include; river and flood plain modelling using HEC-RAS 1D-2D modelling tool; Estimation of Hydrologic Design Floods; Design of Canal and Road crossing structures, culverts, bridges etc...Preparation of design and construction drawings for flood protection works and associated hydraulic infrastructures.

Previously; He has worked at various levels of responsibilities at Water Works Design and Supervision Enterprise Ethiopia. During his stay he has been highly involved in the execution of more than five study and design projects. His role ranged from hydraulic design of water ways, regulatory and protective canal structures to design of large hydraulic structures i.e. dam spillway control crests, chute profiles and energy dissipation mechanisms including alternative selection and finding suitable arrangements. Nature of projects cover flood control and protection, irrigation and drainage and hydro-power development.
