About

Byron Grant holds a Masters degree ( cum laude ) in Aquatic Health from the Rand Afrikaans University, and has been a specialist biodiversity consultant for 13 years, with particular focus on aquatic ecosystems. Byron is currently registered as a Professional Natural Scientist in Aquatic Science, Ecological Science and Zoological Science with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (Reg. No. 400275/08), and is a member of the South African Society of Aquatic Scientists, the South African Wetland Society (Founding Member), the Zoological Society of South Africa, the Yellowfish Working Group, and the Aquatox Forum. Additionally, Byron Grant is an accredited SASS5 River Health Programme practitioner with the Department of Water and Sanitation, having been accredited since 2005, and has also attended training sessions for EcoStatus Determination presented by the Department of Water Affairs utilising the latest methods in Present Ecological State determination and Reserve Determination methodology. As consulting aquatic specialist with significant experience in all aspects of the aquatic environment, Byron’s professional career has also been focused on providing specialist guidance and advice to various sectors including environmental consultants, mining, industry and government with regards to aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity in general.

 

In addition, Byron has over 10 years’ of specialist biodiversity project management experience with projects spanning various biodiversity specialist disciplines within African countries, including terrestrial (fauna and flora), wetlands and aquatic ecosystems, while projects managed range across various specialist biodiversity-related services, including baseline biodiversity assessments, biodiversity impact assessments, Biodiversity Management and Action Plans, wetland and aquatic ecosystem assessments, Critical Biodiversity Areas verification studies, etc.
