About

PhD Forest Engineering by training, I have developed my professional activities in two universities and one consulting company. My main interest is to improve the application of the theory of ecological systems to manage human actions on ecosystem functions and structures, focusing on river networks and animal communities for their role as factors (functional elements) and indicators (sinks of information). For the past 17 years, I have developed my research and professional activities in the study of the structure and functioning of biotic communities in European and Iberan rivers; mainly focused on fish communities. I have applied the concepts of stability and resilience to the ecosystem based manegement of riverine systems; developing methods for the determination of reference conditions; applying principles of population dynamics to recreational freshwater fisheries management; and designed bioassessment metrics linking physico-chemical and ecological conditions. I am currently trying to apply the metabolic theory of ecology to bioassessment models, tools and methods. I am member of Hidrobiology Research Group, where I am currently conducting my research activities; and the Department of Natural Systems and Resources, where I do docent activities, at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. I am co-founder of Ecohidráulica SL, consulting company specialized in the development of solutions in the field of hydraulic resources and their linked ecosystems, by which new concepts and methods are directly applied to management programs.
