Charles Thompson, Analytical Chemist - Mercury at International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
About
I received my undergraduate degree in Natural Resources Management with a minor in Water Resources Management (2005) from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point and a master's degree in Water Security and International Development (2014) from the University of East Anglia (UK). My graduate research focused on corporate engagement with water resources, water stewardship and transboundary water resources. In 2006, I joined the USGS Biological Resources Division working in Yankton, South Dakota assisting with pallid sturgeon research on the Missouri River. In 2007, I moved back to Wisconsin and joined the Wisconsin Mercury Research Laboratory (USGS) in Middleton as a Hydrologic Technician, while completing graduate coursework at the University of Wisconsin - Madison in soil and water chemistry. I worked as a member of the Mercury Research Team as a Physical Scientist conducting research and analyses on environmental mercury interactions for 8 years. In 2015, I moved overseas to join the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Monaco to continue conducting research on mercury, specifically in the marine environment.
