Darrel Dunn, Hydrogeologist
About
Synopsis - Darrel Dunn
Consulting Hydrogeologist - Geologist I am an unaffiliated geologist and hydrologist with advanced education and extensive experience, including the sub-disciplines of hydrogeology, environmental geology, engineering geology, and petroleum geology. I am available for consulting and contract/subcontract work. My office is located in the Colorado Springs - Denver area. I am organized as a sole proprietor doing business as Darrel Dunn - Hydrogeologist. My office is equipped with a Windows PC, a Linux PC, a laptop, and a substantial professional library. I maintain a presence on the internet, and publish web pages dealing with hydrologic and geologic topics. I have recently performed subcontract work related to surface water and groundwater modeling, and aquifer testing. I have advised internet correspondents regarding water resources planning and management, groundwater exploration, aquifer testing, injection well testing, streamflow analysis, slope stability, springs, and other hydrologic and geologic topics. I maintain Wyoming registration as a professional geologist. I am within commuting distance of Colorado Springs and Denver. I am within telecommuting distance over a larger area, and can work as a consultant or contractor or subcontractor to clients located anywhere that licensing and residency requirements allow it. I use internet cloud services to share documents for remote employment. My office is about 75 minutes from Denver International Airport, which facilitates travel.
I am qualified by education and extensive experience for advanced geologic and hydrologic work. I have a Ph.D. in geology/hydrogeology with minors in petrology and mathematics, which includes graduate level education in hydrogeology, engineering geology, and petroleum reservoir engineering, plus supporting graduate credit for related courses in geology and advanced mathematics. My experience includes employment by a government agency as a hydrologist, by engineering firms as a hydrogeologist, by universities as a professor of geology and hydrogeology, and by an oil company as a petroleum geologist. I also operated my own firm called Earth Science Services, Inc, in Bozeman, Montana, providing services primarily in hydrogeology, environmental geology, and engineering geology. Advanced education and extensive experience in geology provides understanding of the geologic aspects of projects, while advanced education in mathematics, and experience in applying it, provides for quantitative approaches to projects when they are appropriate.
I have been using computer applications throughout my career. I have developed programs in Fortran and Basic, and can operate from the command line of a Linux/Unix terminal. Computing proficiency supports the use of open-source applications, which may be unique or may be better to use than available proprietary software. It also allows me to develop original code for special problems. I have extensive experience with groundwater and surface water modeling software, beginning with my Ph.D. Thesis.
Details of my education and experience are presented in my resume. Examples of hydrogeologic work are presented on my Hydrogeology Experience page. Examples of geologic (non-hydrologic) work are presented on my Geology Experience page. I am available for hydrologic and geologic consulting and contract work. I can be contacted by email at ddunn@dunnhydrogeo.com. |
