Bio For Dr Edmund Merem
Dr. Edmund Merem completed his B.A. and M.E.S. at York University, Toronto and then his M.A. at Pontifical Lateran University, Vatican City. He began his doctoral education at the University of Ottawa in Ontario, Canada and graduated with a Ph.D. from Jackson State University, Mississippi. Being the lead scholar in his College and Department with several researcher of the year awards bestowed. Dr. Merem has many years of experience in energy analysis, geothermal and wind energy, landscape ecology, illegal wildlife and endangered species trade, biodiversity, organic farming, food security, climate change research, agriculture and land use, water resources, growth management, comprehensive and master planning, global cities, program implementation and evaluation, environmental ethics, natural disaster management, environmental justice, impact assessment, image interpretation, spatial analysis, the applications of Geospatial Information Systems to natural resources management, economic and historical geology. Merem’s other areas of expertise cover agro-forestry and mining, global environmental planning and environmental accounting for oil and gas in Canada and the US, transboundary watershed management, and hydro politics of the Middle East and Africa. Accordingly, Edmund has written several research monographs, books, together with half a dozen book chapters, and research papers that have been published in academic journals and major conference proceedings. Additionally, he worked as an Environmental Analyst in the Environment Bureau of Agriculture and Agric-Food Canada and for the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council as a grant reviewer. During his formative years, Edmund also worked briefly at the Federal Ministry of National Planning in Lagos, Nigeria. Aside from serving in other capacities as a journal editor and reviewer, he is not only very fluent in Italian and several European and African languages, but for almost two decades Merem remains in the forefront of research pertaining to environmental issues in the African continent. While Dr. Merem is currently a full Professor of Environment and Land Use, for years he worked as the founding PhD Program Coordinator in the Urban and Regional Planning Department at Jackson State University.
