Dr. Jamil Kazmi is a Meritorious Professor and Chairman in the Department of Geography and Ex-Director of ISPA,  University of Karachi, Karachi. He received his doctoral degree in Geography from University of Karachi (1997), and completed his Post Doctoral term from University of Georgia, Athens under the Senior Fulbright Scholarship 1998-99 in the field of GIS/Remote Sensing. Dr. Jamil Kazmi also associated as Research Associate, with the Department of Geography, University of British Columbia, BC, Canada from 2002-2008.
 
Over the past 29 years, Dr. Kazmi has conducted projects using GIS for spatial analysis and assessment of land use planning environmental data, habitat mapping, coastal ecology, emission inventories, and vectors of diseases. He has focused on environmental degradation, coastal changes, disease ecology, air pollution, noise pollution, water quality, and mosquito, turtle habitats and marine fisheries. In addition he has completed many EIA projects on dam site development, Highways, wetland reserves, excavation impacts, pesticide dumps, air and noise pollution. He has extensive experience of related work in Pakistan, Canada and USA, and has good knowledge of software for mapping, database development, image processing and manipulation of remote sensing/cartographic data.

Dr. Kazmi has been associated as consultant with various international organization such as World Bank, ADP, UNEP, UNDP, ADB, FAO, Madrone Environmental Systems Inc., Levelton Engineering Ltd., Raasta Consultants, ECIL,  and OCL,   and has completed many projects in Demography, EIAs, Diseases Mapping, urban forestry, terrain stability mapping, Biodiversity,  predictive ecosystem, Master Plan, base mapping and environmental modeling. Teaching is a mission and passion for Dr. Kazmi and has 28 years of teaching experience to his credit both in Asian and North American Universities. He has produced 21 Ph.Ds., 11 M Phil and co-supervised a Post Doc.   

He has published extensively in journals of international repute in the area of his research interests such as the application of Geo-informatics in environmental modeling and disease ecology. He was the  president of Pakistan Geographical Association (PGA) from (2008-2013), the largest body of Geographers in Pakistan and an active member of the Association of American Geographers (AAG). Currently editor of five international Journals of North America and South-East Asia.

Dr. Kazmi is a recipient of the most prestigious awards such as “ Special Achievement in GIS” by ESRI, USA and “Best University Teacher Award” by Higher Education Commission (HEC), Government of Pakistan and special achievement award  in Ecology from WWF (Indus for All Award).
