Madhulika Banerjee, Dr.

About

I have taught mainstream Political Science at the University of Delhi since 1985 and at the same time, researched on those topics that are not normally included in the discipline. My book "Power, Knowledge, Medicine: Ayurvedic Pharmaceuticals at home and in the World", was published by Orient Blackswan appeared in 2009. It focussed on the state and market dimensions of the knowledge system,  and now I work on its interaction with the local health traditions on the ground, which is the mainstay of people’s health for a large part of the Indian population.  I now teach a course on the politics of knowledge, attempting to extend her argument on medicine to other non-modern knowledges, in which water is a very important issue. My students are exploring the value relevance of traditional knowledge of water and water management, such that they can be applied to contemporary and future trajectories of development.
