Maria Verdugo Althöfer, Expert in phytoplankton at DBO5
About
y education, formal and nonformal, and my professional experience have been focused in environmental issues since i’ve obtained my Bachelor Degree in Biology (speciality: Zoology). But until the year 1994 I was focussed in aquatic enviroments. In 1996 I began to work for the Guadiana River Basin, doing microbiological analysis and phytoplankton studies. I made laboratory and also field work, taking samples in blooms of cyanobacteria in reservoirs. My knowledge of German, English and French help for the use of algae keys and to make literature searchs. After 12 years there, the last years i worked in the validation of physical-chemical methods for the ISO where the microbiological works where the big part of the work Then I participated in a selection process for a four year contract I+D+I , that I win, for working in the proyect: Identification of potentially toxin-producing cyanobacteria, toxicity testing and toxicity bioassays using new methods. There i was the phytoplankton technichian I was taken part successfully in the proficiency test phytoplankton 2009, External Quality Assessment trials Phytoplankton EQUAT .Then I think i, I have gained ample experience working on several aspects of aquatic organisms and ecosystems
