Martino Boni, GIS Developer / Web Developer presso ARCADIA SISTEMI INFORMATIVI TERRITORIALI S.R.L.
About
I am an environmental engineer, graduated in 2008 in Padova (Italy).
After my graduation I collaborated with the University of Padova where I had research activity further investigating rainfall statistics and hydrological models; this experience allowed me to actively work in the research field and collaborate with a professional team. During this period I participated at the EGU (European Geosciences Union) congress in Vienna where I had the opportunity to present my own data and I enjoyed the international exchange of knowledge and culture.
Since 2010 up to now I have been working for Medingegneria s.r.l. and SGI s.p.a. companies, where I contributed in the development and management of dynamic simulation models (Planning Model and Drought Management Tool) for the SWLRI project (Strategy for Water and Land Resources in Iraq) using Powersim Studio 7/8/9 software, which lead me improving problem-solving skills. Moreover, in these years I spent a number of periods in the Middle East. First, I settled in North Iraq (Kurdistan) for nine months where I worked with a small team of local people for data collection. Then, I monthly travelled to Amman (Jordan) and Baghdad (Iraq) to participate several workshops and provide technical teachings for the MoWR (Ministry of Water Resources, Iraq). Working for the EU would be a remarkable opportunity to interact and improve my experience also in the European context.
These business trips gave me the chance to deepen my technical skills and also to exchange views and experiences with senior expertees. Furthermore, because of security restriction, I could spend my spare time in self-learning programming languages; this was useful since I currently implement them in my daily work.
As a consultant, I have also collaborated in GIS activities, using ESRI and open source (QGis) softwares. I feel really enthusiastic about them and I am still studying in order to improve and integrate my programming mastery, since I would like also to extend my knowledge to WebGis applications. I am convinced that self-learning represents a valuable means to gain knowledge: my past experience made me understand that I am resolute and a quick learner. On the other hand, I do also believe that dealing with real applications is the fastest way to get to the next step.
