Sifan A. Koriche, Dr.
About
I am a hydroclimate scientist interested in understanding how human-caused climate change impacts terrestrial freshwater system. My extensive experience encompasses diverse climate and hydrological modeling projects, notably a multinational initiative funded by the European Union and the National Science Foundation. In this collaborative endeavor, I developed my skills in setting up and operating cutting-edge climate and hydrological research. I have been working on research agendas focused on examining regional and large-scale hydroclimatic processes influencing inland water bodies, such as Caspian Sea and Lake Victoria. Additionally, I have contributed to the development of a flood early warning system. My first-hand experience includes working with CMIP products (CMIP5 and CMIP6), configuring sensitivity experimental designs in climate models like the Community Earth System Model (CESM), and extensive involvement in large-scale hydrological modeling using LISFLOOD. These experiences are complemented by the publication of research articles in reputable journals (e.g., JGR: Atmospheres, Environmental Research Letters, Earth Science Reviews, Quaternary Science Review, JPCE), highlighting my commitment to advancing the understanding of hydroclimate dynamics.
My journey in research began in 2009 as a junior researcher, leading me to secure the Netherlands Fellowship Program to enhance my education and research potential. Subsequently, I earned the prestigious Marie Curie Research Fellowship for my PhD studies at the University of Reading in the UK. This experience exposed me to a wealth of knowledge and facilitated collaborations with world-leading scientists from University of Reading, University of Bremen, Bristol University, Baylor University, University of Minnesota, Central University of Technology and California Polytechnic State University. With fifteen years of diverse work experience in academia, industry, and research institutes, I have cultivated extensive expertise in climate, hydrological, and geospatial sciences. Over the past seven years, I have traveled to numerous countries to conduct research, present findings at international conferences, and organize conferences, contributing to the global discourse on hydroclimate science.
