About

Steven leads global stakeholder engagement and external relations for GEO (the Group on Earth Observations) and also coordinates commercial sector engagement activities . He has worked in the geospatial domain most of his career, including the Open Geospatial Consortium (on open standards development), with the British Government (on national data infrastructures) and with a startup in the UK (on geocoding). He has some limited knowledge of water (WASH) gained from working on a World Bank project on water point mapping in Tanzania as an open standards adviser. 

He is a SASNet Fellow at the Urban Big Data Centre at the University of Glasgow and a Visiting Professor at the Institute for Future Cities at the University of Strathclyde also in Glasgow, Scotland. Steven works internationally with many of the GEO government and participating organisation members, such as Defra, EC, ESA, INEGI, JAXA, NASA, UNISDR, UNOOSA, UNOSAT, the World Bank and WMO. 

Steven has worked for most of his career in the areas of strategy, policy, standards and innovation related to location or geospatial data, tools and services. He is an active Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and a member of the Global Advisory Council of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) focussed on open geospatial standards. He is keen to bring together the worlds of geography, statistics and environmental reporting.
