Winnie Musonda : With over 20 years of environment and natural resources planning and management experience, and a specialization in forest management, Winnie has made a significant contribution to environmental protection and the sustainable management of natural resources in Zambia through providing policy advise, formulation and analysis, project formulation, evaluation and management.

W innie leads the Environment Unit in UNDP Zambia, managing UNDP’s Environment and Natural Resources projects, working to develop new projects and supporting policy dialogue, partnerships and resource mobilization and advocacy, resource mobilisation.  My current focus is on applying decision and analysis techniques to complex multi-stakeholder planning processes and negotiations for sustainable development.  Winnie is proud of her strong client relationships and the strong Environment team she has helped to build in Zambia, with its focus on delivering results. In over eight years as an Environment Advisor, Winnie has worked to be an effective resource person on environment and natural resources management and initiated innovative approaches, such as the mainstreaming of the Millennium Development Goals into the development of environment policy, and has shared this experience widely.

W innie has worked with UNDP Zambia for the past fifteen years, beginning as a Programme Analyst in 2001 and progressing to Environment Advisor and now Head of the Environment Unit and Assistant Resident Representative.  As Programme Analyst she specialized in gender issues, working on the analysis and preparation of papers on the social-economic situation in Zambia, its national development plans and the best use of UNDP assistance, and participated in the negotiations and preparation of programmes for UNDP funding in the areas of Education; Gender and Development; and Health and Youth.

W innie brought to UNDP almost a decade of professional experience.  Prior to joining, she was a Commercial Officer with the British High Commission in Zambia, analyzing and reporting on development issues such as  aid, loans and investment opportunities and incorporating gender concerns.  She previously worked for the Government of Zambia’s Forestry Department as a Forest Officer managing forest resources, generating forest project proposals and advising on developing and using forest resources.
