Job Summary
We are seeking to recruit a Senior Water Scientist or Water Scientist to assist with and manage a wide range of projects across the UK. This will include baseline, feasibility and optioneering studies, planning and co-ordinating field studies and monitoring programmes (including installation of automated site equipment, pollution incident response investigations, and data analysis), influencing projects to ensure positive environmental outcomes, stakeholder engagement, and drafting high quality technical and non-technical reports with a focus on Environmental Statement chapters and WFD assessments. We envisage successful candidates to have experience off and be able to deliver the following types of work to a high standard:
Water quality/sediment/hydrological studies.
EIA and WFD assessments.
Working with others as appropriate, develop sustainable solutions to ensure new developments are properly mitigated and result in positive environmental outcomes.
Provide pollution prevention advice including preparing Water Management Plans and potentially acting as Environmental Clerk of Works.
Understand and be able to make applications for a range of relevant consents and permissions.
Effective engagement with statutory and non-statutory stakeholders.
Ability to co-ordinate and work collaboratively and iteratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
Project management (including client management), technical proposal and report writing.
Minimum Requirements
To be successful in this role we are looking for applicants from experienced professionals who have worked in a similar role. They should:
Have experience in water quality, hydrology and / or hydroecology.
Plan and organize project studies, field work and monitoring.
Interpret and record data methodically, conducts analysis, compare findings to relevant studies and regulations to ensure compliance using strong analytical / numerical skills.
Have experience of undertaking environmental feasibility/appraisals, and impact and WFD assessments for Town and Country Planning applications and Development Consent Orders.
Ideally have experience applying DMRB/HEWRAT and developing SuDS treatment trains using the SuDS Manual (CIRIA, 2015).
Have excellent report writing skills.
Be developing project management skills.
Have some experience of bid preparation and drafting technical proposals.
Have strong communication skills.
Work independently under direction of senior staff.
Oversee work of less experienced scientists.
Preferred Qualifications
Be qualified to degree level in relevant subject (e.g. geography, environmental science, chemistry, ecology etc.).
For the senior grade we would expect the successful candidate to have a minimum of 4 years practical experience in a similar or comparable role and ideally be a member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. CIWEM, CIEEM, IEMA, BHS etc.).
