Inland Fisheries Policy Manager

Job Description: The American Sportfishing Association (ASA), the trade association for the sportfishing industry, seeks applicants to lead fisheries-related government affairs activities focused on inland fisheries. The Inland Fisheries Policy Manager will work integrally with ASA government affairs staff, state and federal legislative personnel, resource management agencies, fisheries conservation organizations, businesses and other stakeholders to further ASA goals and objectives.
Duties:
- Work with ASA’s government affairs team, partner organizations and agencies to
identify and prioritize state and federal legislative and policy issues affecting inland
fisheries conservation and fishing access.
- Monitor, provide analysis of, and engage in relevant state and federal legislation and
other related regulatory issues to achieve positive outcomes for the sportfishing
industry.
- Represent the recreational fishing industry in discussions with state and federal
legislative personnel, resource management agencies, and conservation partners.
- Engage ASA members, partner organizations and grassroots in inland fisheries
advocacy efforts.
Work collaboratively with ASA’s marketing and communications team to develop
effective messaging and identify appropriate channels to raise awareness of ASA’s inland fisheries policy positions, including through e-newsletters, news releases, website content, social media, video and print production, and marketing initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently on
multiple tasks.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Able to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholder groups, elected
officials, and their staff.
- Comfort serving at both the strategic and operational levels. Willing to both set a
strategy and lead the execution of that strategy in a fast-paced and dynamic
environment.
- Minimum of three years of experience in fisheries management and/or public policy.
- Direct experience working with/for state fish and wildlife agencies is a plus.
- Willingness to travel (up to 25%).
