Basic idea which is being followed in Valais seems to be to store water where ever  possible and then consume judiciously which is the only solution of future of water management. I recall my childhood days in Bengal 60 years back when the place where I grew up around the city of Kolkata there were innumerable ponds, lakes and low lying areas some were interconnected by canals. With increase of population and modernisation the pressure on lands increased. The first casualties were such ponds, lakes and lowlands for which city was surviving and now it is like a necropolis. Swiss have maintained its heritage and will survive!
