Bactest was founded to commercialise intellectual property based on its technology platform CYTOMAIA. Bactest has a patent portfolio of 10 patents some granted, some pending and has plans to file more intellectual property to protect its product lines.

Bactest is unique in that its intellectual property is centred around measuring and monitoring microbial activity and turning that activity into data and knowledge that enable its customers to make management and operational decisions that save time, carbon footprint and energy.

Bactest’s first product was Speedy Breedy® Speedy Breedy can be thought of as a ‘Lab in a Box’, without the requirement for an expert user or the additional costs of a laboratory, extra lab equipment and preparation. On March 5 2015 Bactest launched its second product Shepherd managing the floc®  Shepherd is an Activated Sludge Monitoring and Management System that floats in an activated sludge lane and automatically samples every 60 minutes calculating an accurate BOD5 proxy every hour. This is displayed on the control panel adjacent to Shepherd so operators can take action to reduce aeration. In addition Shepherd transmits data to a Cloud based dashboard that can be accessed via the web and gives process engineers and managers a “bird’s eye” view of all of the plants where Shepherd has been deployed.
