About

The Kazakhstan Business Council for Sustainable Development is a coalition of 20 industrial enterprises and consulting companies united by a shared commitment to sustainable development in the Republic of Kazakhstan via the three pillars of economic growth, ecological balance and social progress.

The idea of establishing the Kazakhstan Business Association for Sustainable Development (KBASD) was voiced by the members of the Working Group on Improvement of Environmental Regulations and by Central Asia Natural Resources Management Program (NRMP), funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). During the Working Group meetings, the members concluded on the need to establish a unified body, which would ensure that a constructive dialogue was maintained among the nature users, state bodies, businesses, and NGOs in order to find solutions to environmental and social issues and to attain sustainable development principles.

During the Working Group meeting held on October 31, 2003, the members discussed the possibility of establishing an Association. A founding meeting was held on February 15, 2003 that included a roundtable discussion and a press conference with media representatives to launch the new association. The founding meting was followed by official registration of the Association with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan on April 4, 2003.
