Methodology:

Though groundwater can’t be seen above the earth surface, Surface investigations would provide the information about type, porosity, water content and the density of subsurface structure. We do this with the help of electrical characteristics of the earth without any drilling in the ground with the help of Resistivity Meter by geophysical four pole method.

We as Bhoojalshree, apply Schlumberger Vertical Electrical sounding configuration in resistivity method. The basic principle behind electrical methods is the injection of AC/DC current into the ground using a pair of electrodes.  This current causes a potential difference in the ground which is measured by a separate pair of electrodes. The depth of investigation is a function of the metal electrode spacing, the greater the spacing, the deeper the penetration and investigation. In this method the data supplied by this technique are partly reliable and it is less expensive. It gives only indirect sign of groundwater so that the underground hydrologic records are referred from the surface investigations. To make more reliable interpretation we correlate data from the sub surface investigations and surface findings.

To apply the above methodology in the field in India, Bhoojalshree is only one work force who apply the methodology thoroughly from selection of pin point to acquiring detail resistance for prediction of hydro geological strata. For this purpose, we apply Resistivity Meter at 50 to 100 nos. of points at a site according to requirement for selection of the point having probabilities of maximum ground water in the area. After selection of one – two points at site, we take a detailed data-VES by resistivity meter for groundwater exploration according to requirement of depth. This is the Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) done by Resistivity Meter.

The analysis of field data of each point with help of computerised program having calculation and graphs would derive the final results containing interpretation, evaluation and recommendation. The best site could be selected after the comparison between final results of each point. This part could be common in every phase. We also co-relate the results with the Groundwater Prospects Maps (Prepared from Satellite Image interpretation with reference to Survey Done by National Remote Sensing Agency, Hyderabad)
