HYBACS Hybrid Activated Sludge
Published on by Jeremy Biddle, Engineering Director at Bluewater Bio for Bluewater Bio Ltd
HYBACS (HYBrid ACtivated Sludge) enhances the conventional activated sludge process by adding a unique, patented reactor, where bacterial hydrolysis occurs at a much higher rate. This enables the activated sludge process to treat double the flow and load, and enhances the settleability of the sludge.
HYBACS has been successfully deployed to upgrade activated sludge plants in Asia, Africa, UK and the Middle East. The photo below shows the HYBACS upgrade at Tubli WPCC, Bahrain, which was upgraded in 2013 from 40 MLD to 100 MLD. Following over 5 years' very successful performance, Bluewater Bio were awarded the contract for the second upgrade phase in 2019.
