Internships

You are mostly water. What else will you be?

Apply to be a Circle of Blue intern today.

Circle of Blue is where water speaks. In these times of peril and potential, we connect people to meaningful, reliable and actionable information about water and its relationship to to food, energy, and the health of life on the planet.

Circle of Blue interns  work directly  with our team of reporters, data wranglers and designers. They have a level of agency that puts them on the ground floor of the action, joining in editorial discussions, working with data analysis and visualization tools, and producing stories, graphics, and social media projects for an international audience.

Our approach is  collaborative  and our workspace is  highly dynamic , with opportunities to both hone your skills and and stretch some creative muscles.

Our past interns have come from  diverse backgrounds  — from journalism and English to chemical and environmental engineering.

Circle of Blue is headquartered at the edge of the largest body of fresh water on Earth: the Great Lakes. Our interns work  completely remotely , meaning we can welcome applicants from all corners of the world.

Hear from past interns about the Circle of Blue experience

“I’ve been interviewing the ‘superheroes’ — at Circle of Blue, we call them Action Figures — who are making waves in the fields of water, food, energy, and climate. I get to hear their personal stories about how they came to be passionate about their field.”

– Allison

“For me, one of the best parts of being an intern at Circle of Blue is that, frankly, I don’t feel like an intern. From the very beginning, I was part of the meetings that conceived this project that I’m now working almost full time on (and more or less directing).”

– Aubrey

“I have been enjoying every day here, and I am amazed at the variety of work I have been able to touch on.”

– Jinah
