Published by Water Network Research, Official research team of The Water Network for Costa Rica Water
Costa Rica has launched an international water and sewerage infrastructure improvement tender for capital San José.
The plan is to use infrastructure between the Puente Mulas 2 pumping station and the Bellorizonte tank. Works will include new impulsion pipes, a 220l/s storage tank, and a distribution network.
The tank will serve Monasterio de Escazú, 7.7km from the center of San José. A 30km, 150l/s gravity pipeline will connect Monasterio and a tank in Junquillo, crossing Santa Ana and Mora, in Santiago de Puriscal canton.
Bids must be submitted by March 25.
Due to the pandemic, water authority AyA had extended last year all concessions and permits that were due to expire.
Water treatment and sewerage services coverage rose from 8% to 15% from 2015 to 2019, and the 2016-2045 national sewerage plan includes investments of US$6.2bn.
Work remains ongoing on the fifth stage of the US$422mnSan José metropolitan aqueduct which will source water from Orosi.
