Online Ozone Analyzer with OZ1.2 Sensor for Process Water
Published on by Susan Su for Dabeco
The online ozone analyzer for process water is equipped with a German-made OZ1.2 sensor, utilizing a membrane-covered amperometric 2-electrode system to accurately measure ozone concentration in surfactant-free water (swimming pool water, drinking water, service water, process water), featuring automatic temperature compensation, <1% monthly slope drift, 15-second T90 response time, and versatile configurations. It is not suitable for detecting the absence of ozone (i.e., no ozone present).
Featuring an LCD screen, the instrument can automatically identify measured parameters. It has current 4-20mA and RS485 output, allows free setting of the measurement range, and is equipped with high and low limit alarm prompts, three-way relay control switches, an adjustable hysteresis range, and multiple automatic electrode calibration methods.
It is widely used in drinking water, swimming pool water, process water, and cooling water.
Working Principle
The sensor adopts a membrane-covered amperometric 2-electrode system. Ozone in water diffuses through the semipermeable membrane, triggering electrochemical reactions at the electrodes. This generates measurable electrical signals (analog, digital, or 4-20mA) that correlate directly with ozone concentration. Integrated temperature compensation ensures consistent performance across environmental fluctuations, while avoiding sudden temperature changes optimizes stability.
Core Features
Exceptional Accuracy & Stability: Monthly slope drift < -1% (under standard conditions: 25°C, pH 7.2 in drinking water) and high resolution (0.001 ppm for 0.5/2 ppm ranges; 0.01 ppm for 5/10/20 ppm ranges).
Rapid Response: T90 response time of approx. 15 seconds for real-time monitoring.
Versatile Output & Connectivity: Available in analog (mV, 0±2V), digital (Modbus RTU), and 4-20mA versions, with 2-pole terminal or 5-pole M12 plug-on flange connections. Digital versions support cable lengths >30m.
Robust Design: Constructed with PVC-U, ABS, and semipermeable membrane; IP68 protection (M12 connector) or IP65 (2-pole terminal) for harsh environments.
Wide Adaptability: Operates in pH 2-11, water temperature 0-45°C, and ambient temperature 0-55°C; compatible with flow rates of 15-30L/h.
Compliance & Reliability: EMC tested and RoHS compliant, with galvanic isolation for digital/analog-out versions ensuring potential-free operation.
Application Scenarios
Ideal for ozone concentration monitoring in:
Swimming pool water
Drinking water & direct drinking water
Service water
Process water
Critical Note: The water must be free of surfactants (tensides) for accurate measurement.
Technical Highlights
Flexible Measuring Ranges: Configurations from 0.005-0.5 ppm to 0.05-20 ppm, adapting to diverse application needs.
Low Maintenance: No zero-point adjustment required; membrane cap replacement (annual, water-quality dependent) and electrolyte renewal (every 3-6 months) ensure long-term performance.
Pressure Adaptability: Operates at 0.5 bar (without retaining ring) or 1.0 bar (with optional PETP retaining ring) to withstand system pressures.
Easy Integration: Compatible with controllers, PLCs, and data loggers via Modbus RTU or analog signals, supporting seamless integration into existing control systems.
