The Fisheries Biologist II (Biologist II) plans, conducts, and implements fishery management studies, research, investigations, and/or projects designed to protect, conserve, restore and enhance natural resources in conjunction with East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) operations. The Biologist II provides oversight and direction to staff or contract personnel, provides statistical and modeling analysis of long term fisheries datasets, and presents results at public meetings, forums, and conferences as required. The Biologist II uses computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, computer modeling, programming, presentation, and statistical software.
Assignments for the current vacancy are carried out in the Mokelumne River corridor, including the Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta and on EBMUD watersheds and reservoirs. Duties include:
• Designing, implementing, and leading fisheries studies to evaluate achievement of biological goals and targets related to instream native anadromous fish populations as well as hatchery populations. This includes Mokelumne River and Delta surveys, analysis of ongoing monitoring surveys (e.g., rotary screw trap, redd surveys, video monitoring, coded wire tag recovery in river and in hatchery), and other research and/or investigations (acoustic tracking, aquatic habitat restoration) designed to protect, conserve and enhance fish species and habitats.
• Designing, permitting, and implementing anadromous fisheries habitat restoration actions in the Lower Mokelumne River.
• Leading staff or contractor efforts to implement EBMUD’s fisheries management programs.
• Managing long-term datasets through data extraction, manipulation, analysis, and data synthesis; including new study and analysis recommendations to management.
The salary range is $8,370 per month increasing to $8,789, $9,228, $9,689, and $10,173 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s degree in either fisheries biology or a closely related biological science.
2a. Three years* of increasingly responsible professional experience in either fisheries or wildlife management as determined by the position assignment; OR
2b. Three years* of experience as a Fisheries/Wildlife Biologist I at EBMUD.
3. Valid California driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
4. Sufficient swimming ability for self-preservation.
5. Willingness to work in a variety of weather conditions where fire, poison oak, rattlesnakes and ticks that may carry Lyme disease are hazards.
6. Willingness to work weekends, holidays or overtime as needed.
* A Master’s Degree in fisheries biology or a closely related biological science may be substituted for one year of the required professional experience.
