Senior Systems Programmer (Senior Systems Engineer)
East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) is seeking an experienced enterprise IT systems architect and integrator to design, implement, and operationally support multiple IT infrastructures. Additional responsibilities include systems programming, project management and 24x7 on-call rotation.

The successful candidate will join IT Operations in the Information Systems Department (ISD) and will deliver a variety of IT infrastructure solutions and services to EBMUD including operating systems configuration management, enterprise storage engineering and administration, virtual machine host and hypervisor management, cloud readiness and operations, backup, restore, and contingency readiness for Oracle databases and application servers.

We are seeking candidates with advanced enterprise level experience integrating and operationally supporting multiple technologies concurrently. Cross technology operations and technical support experience is desired in three or more of the following disciplines:
• Scripting and systems programming to integrate products and automate operations.
• Red Hat Linux and Solaris administration, troubleshooting and performance tuning.
• Ansible configuration management and Nagios XI monitoring administration.
• NetApp storage design and administration.
• Oracle database systems support and contingency.
• VMware host and hypervisor design and administration.
• Commvault data protection design and operation.
• AWS cloud administration and operations.

And the ability to:
• Visualize and clearly describe end-to-end processes and impacts.
• Analyze business requirements to recommend standardized solutions.
• Publish various architectural diagrams, operational guides, project plans and status reports.
• Develop and maintain system programs such as pre- and post-job process scripts, batch procedures, and CLI and/or API automations.
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships; teamwork attitude.
• Balance project deliverables among day-to-day operational demands.
• Perform independent research and share knowledge effectively.
• Maintain calm and focus during emergency operations.

The ideal candidate will have five or more years of day-to-day operational support experience in as many of the technology disciplines listed above as possible, in a medium-to-large company. The ideal candidate will also have:
• Experience architecting, implementing and supporting enterprise-class IT infrastructures.
• Programming and scripting experience at the systems level.
• Operational knowledge of networking, IT security, data backup and restore practices.
• A thorough understanding of industry best practices for request, change, incident and problem management processes.

The salary range is $9,898 per month increasing to $10,393, $10,913, $11,459, and $12,032 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

 Requirements:
Any combination of education and experience which has led to the acquisition of the knowledge and abilities indicated above. Typical ways of acquiring the essential knowledge and abilities is a combination of training and experience equivalent to:

1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (majors such as computer science, information systems, and information technology are preferred).

2. Two years of experience in systems programming, one year of which was at a level comparable to or higher than EBMUD's class of Systems Programmer II.

Willingness to work overtime as needed. Working environment is indoors and may require sitting for prolonged periods of time and repetitive hand motions.

 The Selection Process:
1. This is an open and continuous recruitment. 2. Candidates must achieve a passing score on each test part in order to advance to the next step in the selection process.

Candidates demonstrating the strongest qualifications for the position based on their supplemental responses may be invited to a panel interview tentatively scheduled for late October 2019 and late January 2020.

4. Successful candidates will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 to 24 months.

5. The probation period for this position is 12 months. For those holding civil service status the probation period is 6 months.

6. All employment offers are conditional, pending the results of a Live Scan background screening. All selected finalists must participate in the Live Scan background screening process to remain in consideration for EBMUD employment.
