Aerobic Treatment | Global Water & Energy

In aerobic biological treatment processes, organic pollution is converted to carbon dioxide and water. The process requires active aerobic biomass and supplying a significant amount of oxygen to the reactor in order for the treatment to take place. The drawback is that supply of the oxygen needed, is often very energy-intensive, especially when dealing with concentrated industrial wastewaters. Another disadvantage is substantial excess sludge production that must be managed and ultimately disposed of.
