Role
Alberta Transportation, Major Capital Projects Branch is looking for a results-oriented individual who can provide technical support in administering the water management capital program for southern Alberta.
Reporting to the Team Lead, you will be primarily responsible for the delivery of water management infrastructure projects. This is achieved by administering contracts with consultants and contractors for design and construction of projects, on infrastructure owned and operated by Alberta Environment and Parks' (AEP), in a safe, efficient, timely, and fiscally responsible manner.
As a Senior Water Management Technologist, you will make use of your critical thinking skils to provide assessment and evaluation of consultants, ensuring that all engineering work is reviewed throughout all phases of the project, and monitors the construction phase of the project to ensure the work is completed safely and in accordance with department requirements and contract specifications. You will independently administer and supervise smaller ancillary contracts related to these projects.
You will ensure projects are delivered in a manner consistent with national codes and department guidelines, standards, policies, acts, and technical and functional requirements. As the senior technologist, you will provide feedback and assist in the development of department standards, guidelines, and specifications that support of the delivery of water management projects.
In this position, you will represent the department and act as the liaison and first line of contact with indigenous groups, the public, and local authorities. The Senior Water Project Technologist assists in the preparation, negotiation, review, administration, and delivery of utility and land agreements.
Your excellent leadership, organizational skills and problem-solving skills will help you to be successful in this role.
Qualifications
A completed technical diploma, preferably in Civil Engineering, plus a minimum of six years of related work experience in the area of water management infrastructure rehabilitation and maintenance including project management, planning, design, and construction with practical field based expertise. Extensive knowledge of construction practices relating to heavy civil engineering projects, particularly for work carried out during the winter is also required.
Knowledge and understanding of construction contract documents and specifications and their interpretations is required.

Salary
$2,621.67 to $3,442.53 ($68,425 to $89,850 annually)
