The Hippo Roller is a 90-litre (24 gallon) rolling drum with a clip-on steel handle to move water over long distances and difficult terrain much more efficiently than with traditional 20/25-litre (5 gallon) buckets on the head.
The Hippo Roller, founded in 1991, has to date impacted the lives of millions of people in rural communities, who struggle with the daily chore of fetching water. Whilst at face value, the Hippo Roller eases this burden of collecting water, its real value stems from it saving time & unlocking opportunity for a better life. Better health. Better education. A better future.
It is this unlocking of time which profoundly improves the lives of its users. Small-scale farmers in particular get the benefit of not only water for the household, but also more water to irrigate vegetable gardens and crops, supporting their move from subsistence to commercial sustainability and opportunity.
