Water/Wastewater Civil Engineer

Scope
Assists Project Managers with detailed engineering analysis in the preparation of engineering reports, permit applications and construction plan preparation. They direct and train Civil Design Technicians and/or Civil Designers.
Independently evaluates, plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation/modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. May devise new alternatives/approaches to problems encountered, and able to perform difficult and technically challenging work with a specialty area. May exercise project leadership in a technical or managerial way on certain projects or oversee portions of large projects.
Principal Responsibilities
- Drafting procedures and system requirements of clients.
- Various design software.
- Coordination of municipal and other disciplines.
- Complete permit applications for a variety of municipalities.
- Preparation of specifications & cost estimates.
- An understanding of materials and methods.
- The Civil Project Engineer must be able to interpret state and local design criteria and apply it to the specific project needs.
- Regularly has work assignments checked by peer or supervisor.
- The Civil Project Engineer will direct and train Civil Designers to assist them in completing reports, exhibits, plans and specifications and permit applications as required by the projects contractual scope.
- Additional functions include those listed in Civil Designers’ responsibility.
- Ability to consistently produce high quality construction documents.
Skills
- Mastery knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans and drawings;
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction;
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs and AutoCAD Civil 3D software;
- Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering;
- Professional Engineer license;
- A minimum eight years of progressive experience of engineering design in an engineering design firm environment.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull.
- Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises
