About

InfoSense, Inc. is a technology-driven C-corporation spun out of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to commercialize a promising acoustic inspection technology developed by a faculty member in the electrical and computer engineering department. Our patented technology uses sound waves to non- invasively detect blockages in segments of sewer collection pipe by quickly inserting a portable transmitter and receiver into either end of the pipe. The innovation of the underlying technology lies in the fact that our product uses an active transmit and receive process to assess pipe blockage conditions as compared to the reflective nature of similar applications such as SONAR. The active transmit and receive process works extremely well in gravity-fed sewers and pressurized pipes to detect abnormalities in a simple, low cost, and straightforward way.

Our name is derived from a blending of the words "Information" and "Sensors" reflecting our motivation to create new acoustic sensor applications. When developing new applications, we partner with water and wastewater industry leaders to jointly find unique and exciting solutions to their problems. An example of this is our Award Winning Sewer Line Rapid Assessment Tool, or SL-RAT, which was created in partnership with a leading utility to provide critical sewer system condition assessment information quickly and efficiently. The SL-RAT has inspected over10 million feet of pipe and won the prestigious Water Environment Federation Innovative Technology Award in 2012. Over 50 utilities around the world have begun using the SL-RAT to objectively focus their sewer cleaning and camera inspection activities on "problem" pipes thus reducing Sanitary Sewer Overflows, improving operational efficiency, and bettering our global environment.
