The International Hydropower Association (IHA) is a non-profit international membership organisation committed to the responsible and sustainable development of renewable hydropower. We build and share knowledge on hydropower’s role in addressing climate change, the clean energy transition and freshwater management. Our work involves international advocacy, research and policy initiatives and championing good practices.

Job description

As Congress Officer you will play a key role in the success of the World Hydropower Congress taking place in September 2021. This a virtual high-level event bringing together leaders, experts and innovators from government, industry, the United Nations, finance and civil society. You will report to the Conference Manager and work alongside the Communications, Research and Policy, Operations and Membership teams.

This is an unparalleled opportunity for someone with experience in virtual events and an interest in climate change, the net-zero transition and supporting the growth of renewables.

The job will involve the following key tasks and responsibilities:

Key tasks:

• Support the planning, delivery and follow-up of online sessions.

• Send invitations and input into engaging and innovative email marketing to drive audience engagement and registrations for the Congress.

• Schedule test runs and rehearsals with speakers.

• Assist with the coordination of language interpretation and multilingual closed-captioning of sessions. Liaison with translation service providers.

• Assist with the organisation of editing of pre-recorded sessions.

• Assist with the preparation of briefings, minutes or follow-up messages as needed.

• Management of queries about Congress from the public, delegates, partners, sponsors and speakers.

• Update and carry out regular maintenance of the contact database and Congress website.

• Assist with the production of regular progress reports for the IHA Board.

• Support colleagues with ad hoc research and admin tasks related to Congress.

Essential skills and attributes:

• Experience in delivering virtual events

• Degree-level education and experience in a similar or relevant professional role

• Excellent organisational, written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to produce reports in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel

• Good understanding of UK data protection and GDPR

• Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and perform under pressure

• Ability to adapt to a busy environment, managing and prioritising competing deadlines.

 

Desirable skills and attributes:

• Knowledge of Cvent platform

• Experience in using a CRM system

• Interest in climate change, energy, water, engineering or sustainable development

• Experience working with high-level stakeholders

• Digital and social media capabilities

• Previous experience working in a membership body or international organisation

• Additional language(s), for example: Chinese, Spanish, French or Russian
