Position Summary
King Lee Technologies is the leader in reverse osmosis system performance chemistry for the production of high purity water. We are seeking a full-time chemical engineer with a background in formulating, testing, and applying advanced chemistry for the control and safe removal of foulants and mineral scales from semipermeable membrane surfaces. This person shall have a B.S. or an M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering. It is preferred the person has a working knowledge of reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, and microfiltration technology, however, relevant experience and/or related degree may be considered. The position will report to the Technical Director.
This role will enhance the existing vision of King Lee Technologies as a water treatment industry leader. The key features of this position are supporting product development and application through testing and piloting, and addressing domestic and international customer water chemistry needs as part of the Technical Team.
Qualifications & Skills
- B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering (Demonstrated ability and/or additional experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.)
- Prefer 3-5 years of professional experience in one of the following: application chemistry, inorganic chemistry, water treatment, membrane technology, technical account management, or consulting.
- Understanding of solubility limits and phase equilibrium.
- Commitment to learn quickly and manage multiple, sometimes high pressure, tasks simultaneously.
- Skilled in strategic thinking, problem solving, troubleshooting, data analysis, reporting, and summarization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills toward effective cross-functional and customer relations.
- Resourceful in gathering reference information and data and able to work, investigate and learn independently with limited direction while displaying willingness to learn from others at various levels.
- Organized and thorough with documentation.
- Enjoy troubleshooting, problem solving, and tinkering.
- Strong laboratory, technical writing.
- Excel, PowerPoint, and software utilization skills.
- Specialty software skills (e.g. Excel macro development, CRM, programming language).
Responsibilities
Product Application Support
- Collaborate with Engineering and Sales for domestic and international product and application support: answering water chemistry questions, recommending products and application methods, and providing chemistry input toward problem diagnosis and resolution.
- Contribute to domestic and international customer support through evaluation of customer information and interpretation of laboratory analyses (e.g. C, H, N, and Ash, SEM/EDX, ionic water analyses) to determine remedial actions and opportunity for innovation.
- Design and manage pilot-scale and full-scale case studies, both domestically and abroad, to qualify and optimize current and developing products and services.
- Implement training at customer sites to instruct managers and operators in the proper use of chemical products and services including, but not limited to antiscalants, antifoulants, and membrane cleaners. Trainings will range from casual training discussions during customer site visits to seminars, webinars, and industry-wide conferences.
Product Research and QA/QC
- Support product analysis through lab scale, bench scale, and pilot scale evaluation and reporting.
- Support project management and QA/QC for process-related software development projects.
- Define and uphold raw material and product specifications for QC, inspecting accordingly.
- Apply, update, and prepare detailed laboratory SOPs with up-to-date test methods for product support.
- Maintain laboratory, equipment, and chemical inventory. Order chemicals and supplies.
- Prepare professional and scientifically accurate and detailed research notebook and other documentation of laboratory activities.
- Adhere to safe work practices, including appropriate handling and documentation of hazardous chemicals and waste.
Office Practices
- Utilize Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel (with macros), PowerPoint, as well as other applicable software applications.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with customers and colleagues, both orally and in writing, to maintain effective working relationships.
- Demonstrate initiative in maintaining accountability to supervisor and Project Managers.
- Some local travel, with potential domestic and international, approx. 0-20%.
