ASSOCIATE RESEARCH SCIENTIST - MICRO & PATHOLOGY

SUMMARY:
MBI is seeking an Associate Research Scientist to join our Microbiology and Molecular Biology team. The scientist in this role will work closely with other scientists on the Microbiology and Molecular Biology team to further our understanding of key products. The scientist will assist in the implementation of novel molecular techniques and participate in the discovery and development activities for biopesticides and biostimulants. The successful candidate will take initiative to explore creative and cutting-edge approaches to address research questions.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Essential Functions
(List the critical portions of the job, where the incumbent spends the majority of their time)
- Design and execute experiments to further understand of plant-microbe interactions
- Preparation of next-generation sequencing libraries from RNA, rhizosphere, and DNA samples
- DNA and RNA extractions from bacterial, fungal, plant, and insect tissues, including difficult to extract sample types
- Analysis of samples by PCR, gel electrophoresis, and qPCR
- Identification of microbes using sequencing or traditional methods
- General microbiology and molecular biology techniques, including vector construction, cloning, protein over-expression, plasmid purification, and transformation of bacterial organisms
- Use and maintenance of standard molecular biology equipment
- Experience with analysis of RNAseq datasets and gene ontology preferred
- Ability to work well in fast-paced small teams
Other Duties
- Maintain microbial cultures
- Keep the laboratory clean and organized
- Prepare test materials and assist other departments in performing bioassays and sample analysis
- Stay current with the latest literature related to the research focus
- Ability to document work performed to a high standard of completeness and accuracy
- Prepare/update standard operation procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: BS with 3-5 years experience or MS with 0-2 years experience in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related field.
Experience: BS with 3-5 years experience or MS with 0-2 years experience

Physical Requirements: e.g.,
• Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods.
• Extensive use of computer keyboard, mouse and monitor.
• Ability to lift at least 40+/- pounds.
