WATER PRACTICE
Michael Baker International’s Water Group provides innovative consulting, planning and engineering solutions for the entire spectrum of the water cycle. We have proven experience in providing a full range of professional services from scientific and technical analysis, concept through design, and construction support services. Protection and management of water resources starts at the watershed level and follows the movement of water through urban and agricultural areas, streams, lakes and reservoirs, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and water/wastewater treatment plants.

 

DESCRIPTION
Water/Wastewater Department Manager will deliver projects per agreed to plan, budget, program and quality.  (S)He will lead, assign, and review work of the project delivery team; check work and progress and identify changes of scope and additional services.  Staff and Team Management, Mentorship, and development is a responsibility of the Water/Wastewater Department Manager, as well as the development and overseeing of budgets and schedules to optimize Department Performance. The successful candidate will cultivate and maintain client relationships as well as lead proposal development and interview preparation and participation.  Additionally, the successful candidate will provide technical direction, support and strategic planning for future workload and resources while being a visible and active member of the Surface Water community through professional organization involvement.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES
Involved with a variety of water-related projects such as water and sewer master plans; hydraulic modeling,
pipelines, pump stations, reservoirs, wells, lift stations, and treatment facility designs. Mentor and Lead a project team and be responsible for planning, design development, calculations, presentations and overall project development
for all water resources projects.
• Prepare design calculations, drawings, and specifications for water and wastewater pipelines and pumping stations
• Conduct technical evaluations to support planning and design related to water and wastewater systems
• Prepare and review technical memoranda, reports, drawings, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents
• Assist technical marketing during the procurement of key projects
• Communicate effectively and coordinate with project team members including other disciplines (cost estimators, GIS, designers, and other engineers)

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering with an emphasis on environmental and/or water resources engineering, or related engineering field is required
• A Professional Engineer registration in California (P.E.) is required
• Certified as QSD and/or QSP will be seen as more competitive and is preferred
• 15 or more years of experience in performing design and calculations supporting pipelines, pump stations, and reservoirs is required
• Experience with employee management, business development, writing proposals, Contract Negotiation, planning, design, and construction support services for a variety of public works projects is required
• Motivated self-starter, versatile and interested in working on a variety of projects supporting the Water/Wastewater Team is required
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills is required
• Proficient in Hydraulic Modeling of water distribution and sewer collection systems is required
• Proficiency with Microsoft Suite including Word, Outlook, Project, Excel and PowerPoint is required
• Experience managing a design team is required
• A proven track record of responsibility and experience interfacing with clients is preferred
