The Water Group leads the NSW Government in providing confidence to communities and stakeholders with the transparent stewardship of water resources, provision of services and reforms that support sustainable and healthy environments, economies and societies across NSW.
About the role:
This is a sought-after opportunity to collaborate with a passionate team of professionals. In this role, you will plan and undertake hydrologic and hydraulic assessments using data analysis, modelling and statistical techniques to calculate the water available for sustainable allocation for use across NSW and to inform the development of NSW water management policy and plans.
In this role, you will be responsible for undertaking the analysis of rainfall, river flow and storage data and providing insight into predictive water planning and drought management that allows water to be safely allocated through extremes in water availability. Understanding and applying hydrological data is a big part of the role, ensuring it is fit for purpose and underpins reliable information, so that the right decisions can be made within tight deadlines.
About you:
To be successful in this role you will require:
- Degree level qualifications in Engineering, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Knowledge and some years of experience in one or more of the following hydrologic disciplines: water resources management, environmental management, hydrogeology, statistics, hydrologic/hydraulic modelling, , remote sensing and spatial (GIS) analysis.

About Us
The Water department is responsible for surface and groundwater management including ensuring water security for NSW. We ensure the equitable sharing of surface and groundwater resources and that water entitlements and allocations are secure and tradeable. We manage NSW water resources through planning, policy and regulation, and we lead negotiations with the Commonwealth, including the Murray-Darling Basin Authority and other jurisdictions.
