Origin by Ocean is pioneering regenerative marine biotechnology. Through our patented biorefining process, we transform invasive Sargassum into high-purity ingredients such as fucoidan and alginate , serving beauty, personal care, nutraceutical, food and material science sectors.
As we transition from pilot to our First-of-a-Kind commercial biorefinery , we are expanding our commercial leadership. We are looking for a Commercial Director capable of securing multi-year offtake agreements and building a high-performance global sales organisation.
Key Responsibilities
The Commercial Director will lead Origin by Ocean’s global revenue strategy as we scale toward FOAK production. This includes securing multi-million & multi-year offtake agreements , converting technical pilots into commercial contracts, and managing negotiations with enterprise customers across the EU, US, and APAC.
You will design and execute our global go-to-market strategy, leadind the full customer journey for both alginate and fucoidan – to reach offtakes and long-term supply agreements. As we expand into high-value categories such as dermocosmetics, longevity nutrition, functional beverages, and functional skincare, you will identify new growth opportunities, track competitive dynamics, and define pricing strategies for our high-purity marine actives.
A central part of the role is building our commercial organisation : hiring and developing a global sales team, establishing playbooks and KPIs, and utilizing forecasting and revenue-planning tools. You will work closely with the Application Development & Marketing team to align customer expectations with technical and operational capabilities.
As one of the company’s key external voices, you will represent Origin by Ocean at industry events, trade fairs, and strategic meetings, helping position the company as a leader in regenerative blue biotechnology.
Qualifications
- 10+ years in B2B sales in beauty actives, nutraceutical ingredients, or bio-based chemicals.
- Demonstrated success closing large multi-year contracts (€5M–€20M+).
- Deep understanding of technical ingredient sales and scaling a commercial pipeline.
- Strong global network in cosmetics, personal care, or functional nutrition.
- Experience taking a company from early-stage to commercial scale is a strong advantage.
- Pragmatic, high-ownership, entrepreneurial mindset.
