Water Quality Superintendent
Status : Temporary (6 months)
Definition :
Under the general direction of the Director of Water Quality, the Water Quality Superintendent is responsible for personnel and equipment involved in activities related to distribution system flushing, compliance sampling, laboratory analyses, optimization of treatment processes, and protection of distribution system to meet Federal and State drinking water standards. He/she assists in organizing, and reviewing staff and activities related to water quality; implements operating policies and procedures within general administrative guidelines; performs other related work as required.
Distinguishing Features:
- The incumbent is distinguished by his/her responsibility for administering the Company’s water quality program, including technical problem solving in the field of water quality and regulatory compliance with drinking water standards.
- Acts as a liaison with other departments and with our customers as well as with business, industry, and community groups
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coordinates a distribution system quality control programs; offers technical problem-solving for the Company in the area of water quality and maintains liaison with and represents the Company in meetings with a variety of agencies and organizations
- Executes policies and procedures
- Coordinates water sampling and laboratory services
- Administers water quality monitoring programs for compliance with applicable federal and state regulations maintains records and prepares written reports, and analyses as required.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering, chemistry, biology or a closely related field.
- One year of responsible supervisory experience supervising professional staff preferred
- Some technical expertise in the field of water engineering, treatment, storage, distribution and water quality control is required
- Prefer possession of a Grade T2 Water Treatment Plant or D2 Distribution Operator’s Certificate issued by the California Water Resources Control Board Division of Drinking Water.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Technical competency of engineering principles and practices, water treatment, storage, and distribution facilities; water chemistry, biology and bacteriology principles, terminology, and testing procedures
- Extensive skills in organizing and coordinating programs.
- Good written and oral communication and administrative skills necessary.
Other Requirements:
Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record
