Catchment Management Specialist

Description:

Southern Water are seeking to appoint a Catchment Management Specialist to join the Catchment Risk Management team, who are technical specialists responsible for delivering the Company's Catchment Management programme. This programme includes delivery of the Water Industry National Environmental Programme (WINEP) investigations, WINEP Implementation schemes, catchment risk assessments, risk mitigation implementation and development of catchment options to inform our strategic 50 year Water Resources Management Plan.
It is an exciting time to work for Southern Water and be part of our Catchment First initiative, shifting our focus from traditional engineering solutions to working collaboratively with partners to create long-term sustainable improvements within our catchments. Catchment First is the way we are delivering this innovative approach to safeguard our current and future water supplies and the health of our rivers, aquifers and seas. It’s an approach we see as an essential part of our role to build a resilient future for water in our region.

The role holder will be responsible for assisting with the development, implementation and delivery of the Water Resource NEP schemes and investigations; attending regular meetings with the Environment Agency and catchment steering groups to provide updates/feedback on the company’s progress; working with the Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP) lead to determine any future changes in resource capability; and working collaboratively within the Catchment Risk Management team.

A main focus of the role is to help deliver the WINEP Investigations and Scheme Implementation. This covers technical areas of hydrogeology, hydroecology, river restoration, and surface and ground water quality and quantity. Successful delivery of our WINEP programme has a direct impact on our environmental scoring and affects our future funding.

Suitable candidates will hold a degree in Geology, Environmental Science or other environmental subject (or have equivalent experience); have demonstrable experience of hydrogeology and groundwater resources, with a good understanding of the water industry and its operating environment. A Masters Degree in Hydrogeology or an environmental subject is desirable.
Any experience in water resource hydrogeology, hydroecology, river restoration, catchment water quality issues, low flow investigations, WFD would be an advantage.

This role comes with an attractive salary of Up to £44,250 depending on experience.
