State of California
About
California, a western U.S. state, stretches from the Mexican border along the Pacific for nearly 900 miles. It's known for its dramatic terrain encompassing cliff-lined beaches, redwood forest, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Central Valley farmland and the arid Mojave Desert.
Its cities include sprawling Los Angeles, seat of the Hollywood entertainment industry, and hilly San Francisco, home to the Golden Gate Bridge. The Silicon Valley is the undisputed center of innovation and Venture Capital globally. The University of California system boasts the number one technical university in the world (CalTech), UCSD, Davis and Berkeley to name just a few.
The largest of the US states in terms of GDP and population, California, were it a country would be the 6th largest in the world today.
