Analytical Chemist

Description

Demand for lithium is growing exponentially in tandem with the growing electric vehicle market. Summit Nanotech is an award-winning technology company on the cusp of becoming the global leader in the lithium mining space. Our technology is designed to be efficient, low energy, cost effective, and surpass all environmental standards. As we transition to a new energy future, the world needs our technology, and we need amazing people to add to our growing, dynamic, and innovative team.

Summit Nanotech is looking for an Analytical Chemist to join the R&D team. Reporting to our Sensor Team Lead, this position is for our sensor team working closely with the prototype and product engineering teams to develop and validate methods for the quantitative analysis of lithium in real time using our proprietary Li sensor spectroscopic techniques for real-time measurements of elements present in in-line brine samples. This team also supports the R&D department by analyzing materials using molecular spectroscopic techniques such as FTIR, Raman, etc. In addition to industry experience in method development, this position requires strong programming language skills as are necessary for spectroscopic data analysis. The responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to preparing samples and collecting spectra, developing calibration-free analytical methods for the quantitative determination of elements present in brine samples, writing program scripts for analyzing the as-obtained spectroscopic data, and preparing scientific reports, etc. The role will also involve assisting the sensor team to install new in-line sensor system, conduct real-time measurements, and ensure safety.

Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Develop and validate new methods for quantitative analysis of aqueous samples using atomic emission spectroscopic techniques
•    Collect and analyze data using a programming language, such as Python, R, etc., for data analytics
•    Prepare SOPs for laboratory equipment and methods including maintenance, calibration, and operation (e.g., atomic emission and molecular spectroscopy)
•    Assist the project manager with planning and procurement, field installations, and monitoring as well as interfacing with R&D/Engineering and Operations teams
•    Report and clearly document all research work performed and write QC reports
•    Demonstrate scientific expertise and effective communication skills through technical publications and presentations
•    Maintain a clean laboratory environment ensuring that safety regulations are followed

Skills and Qualities

•    A Masters Degree in Chemistry from a recognized institution is required
•    3+ years’ experience with analytical method development and validation
•    Strong background in mathematics and statistics as applied to data analysis, signal processing, and/or chemometrics
•    Ability to program (e.g., Python) scripts for plotting the spectral data and processing the data (correcting the background/baseline, extracting desired data points, etc.)
•    In-depth knowledge of atomic emission spectroscopy and vibrational spectroscopy
•    Ability to multi-task and operate several projects/tasks in parallel while communicating effectively in a team-based environment
