We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate to join the GCRF Water Security and Sustainable Development Hub programme to improve water security for a resilient future. You will have responsibility for developing and implementing a programme of research on the relationship between water security and sustainable development in the context of water resource allocation and governance. This will build on the established programme of research on valuing and governing water within the School. This research will be focused on challenges in Hub countries, including Ethiopia, India, Colombia, and Malaysia. As such, the role has the potential for overseas travel.

Duties include managing own academic research on water institutions and governance, analysing detailed and complex data from a variety of sources, and generate original ideas by building on existing concepts. You will collaborate in the preparation of research publications for recognised peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, reviews and present papers and results to others. You will develop ideas for generating research income, and present detailed research proposals to senior researchers. You will contribute to training for practitioner and country partners on research and methodologies.

You will hold, or be close to completing, a relevant PhD in areas related in water security and have a strong publication record, appropriate for career stage, and familiarity with the existing literature and research in the field. You will have experience of political economy and institutional analysis applied to water allocation and governance. Experience of empirical analysis examining the evolution, design and performance of water allocation institutions is essential.
