We’re looking for someone senior level who is comfortable taking ownership in their role. In this role, you’ll be working directly with our tech team while linking up with our product and business development managers. You’ll overlap with our sales and marketing team on regular occasions to understand what our customers are saying about our products and to inform priorities.

As the team grows, you’ll have the opportunity to lead a great team that you help to put together, and we’ll support you with the required training to do so. If you’re joining us, we want you to become a pillar of the team and have a big impact on what we’re building at VAPAR. 

Day in the life

In this role, you’ll…

Optimise the end-to-end deep learning algorithms and automation system to improve customer outcomes
Work closely with web developers, product owners and business representatives to manage the implementation and delivery of high-quality deep learning models.
Develop supporting algorithms to improve the process of reporting and extracting insights
Continue research in the field of data science and computer vision to ensure that technological knowledge is up to date, and publish works about research and outcomes
Understand how pipe inspection data is used for decision-making, and own the delivery of solutions for this process
Must have skills…

On day one, we’ll expect you to have…

• Have 3+ years of work experience in a deep learning-related role
• Consistently write well-tested, readable, secure and accessible code
• Develop software to integrate with internal back-end systems
• Design procedures for system troubleshooting and maintenance
• Implement integrations requested by customers and assist with core development
• Build tools to reduce occurrences of errors and improve customer experience
• Perform root cause analysis for AI algorithm errors
• Investigate and resolve technical issues and deploy updates and fixes

What separates the best from the rest

• Familiarity with Azure architecture
• Experience scaling applications (ideally on Azure)
• BSc in Computer Science, Engineering OR equivalent education OR equivalent work experience

At VAPAR, we’re creating a smarter way to keep underground pipes in operation longer. Piped infrastructure around the world needs to be maintained and repaired in a way that removes the need for long, manual and fatiguing tasks. Currently, there are people who watch hours of video footage of pipe inspections to find issues and have outdated processes to manage their data. We’re the team that’s changing this.

We turn visual data about every-day pipes directly into condition scores, so maintenance and repairs happen faster, cheaper and more accurately.

VAPAR was founded by two Australian engineers in 2018. As a Civil Engineer, Amanda Siqueira had seen enough of the inefficiencies in the pipe condition assessment process and teamed up with Michelle Aguilar (a Mechatronic Engineer) to build technology to enable asset managers to revolutionize their way of working. Since then, the VAPAR team has grown and now has clients in Australia, the UK and New Zealand and continues to scale.
