The program includes 12 weekly modules, delivered through on-demand, pre-recorded trainings, complemented by live weekly Q&A, interactive workshops and guest lectures from Industry leading experts. This blended format ensures concepts are clearly understood, applied in practice, and supported through a global peer community throughout the program.

This ensures concepts are immediately translated into practice, builds confidence in applying the methodology, and enables participants to implement the learnings directly into their professional work from day one.

Continued Professional Development (CPD) Credits

Our certification is accredited by CPD Training Services - the world's leading and largest independent accreditation institution for trainings by professional bodies and academic institutes.

Upon successful completion of the certification, you will awarded with 60 CPD hours/ credits that will be credited to your personal CPD account and can be used as proof for employers and clients.

What you'll learn:

At the end of the training you will have completed your own water risk assessment, following detailed step-by-step guidance on how to apply the proprietory Water Risk Assessment Blueprint and how to use the templates following each module. You will receive detailed feedback on your Water Risk Assessment from the trainer Jennifer Moeller-Gulland. This will not only allow you to conduct your own water risk assessments after the training, but can also act as a proof of your skills to future clients and employers.

Completion of your own assessment is required to receive the CPD accredited certification (this counts as the final exam).

The training also gives you access to a wide global network of water risk professionals who have completed the training previously.

Module Overview

Module 1 — Foundations of Water Risk & Professional Positioning

Learn why water risk is a systemic, strategic issue and how it shows up across business, government, and finance. You’ll also clarify your role, positioning, and focus as a credible water-risk professional.

Module 2 — The Water Risk Assessment Blueprint

Understand the full Water Risk Assessment Blueprint and why fragmented tools and checklists fail. You’ll learn how to structure a defensible assessment from start to finish.

Module 3 — Water Risk in Business, Policy & Finance

Explore how water risks translate into financial, operational, and strategic impacts. You’ll learn how corporates, investors, and governments interpret water risk—and what they expect from credible assessments.

Module 4 — Screening Tools & Rapid Risk Scans

Learn how to use leading open-source water risk tools for high-level screening—and, critically, when they are not sufficient. You’ll understand how to integrate these tools into a broader assessment without misusing them.

Module 5 — Stakeholder Mapping & Data Collection

Learn how to identify the right stakeholders, institutions, and data sources for water risk assessments. You’ll gain practical guidance on interviews, data gaps, and navigating complex governance environments.

Module 6 — Assessing Water Resources Risks

Assess risks related to water scarcity, flooding, pollution, and climate variability using a structured, non-technical approach. You’ll learn how to analyse supply-demand dynamics and exposure without needing hydrology expertise.

Module 7 — Assessing Water Infrastructure Risks

Evaluate risks linked to water supply, wastewater treatment, non-revenue water, and ageing infrastructure. You’ll apply templates and indicators to identify vulnerabilities and bottlenecks.

Module 8 — Assessing Water Governance Risks

Analyse legal, institutional, financial, and capacity-related governance risks that shape real-world outcomes. You’ll learn how governance failures amplify physical water risks—and how to assess them systematically.

Module 9 — Running End-to-End Water Risk Assessments

Bring all assessment components together to run complete water risk assessments for governments, corporates, and financial institutions. You’ll learn how assessment depth and focus differ by client and context.

Module 10 — Influencing Decision-Makers with Water Risk Insights

Learn how to translate technical findings into clear, compelling insights that resonate with senior decision-makers. You’ll strengthen your ability to frame risks, trade-offs, and priorities.

Module 11 — Collective Action & Systemic Solutions

Understand when water risks require collective action rather than site-level solutions. You’ll explore multi-stakeholder platforms, governance models, and what makes collective efforts succeed—or fail.

Module 12 — From Risk Assessment to Water Strategy

Learn how to prioritise solutions and translate assessments into actionable water strategies. You’ll evaluate feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and risk-reduction potential to support real decision-making.
