We have an immediate opening for a full-time Automation & Controls PLC-HMI Programmer who will design, configure, program, simulate, and test automated machinery and implementation of process control solutions for the manufacturing industry.
Essential Job Functions:
- Configure the PLC/HMI hardware to effectively communicate. Additional computer networking elements such as remote access and control, output to printer or data storage, mobile device accessibility or any other customer driven specification is required.
- Understand of various pieces of mechanical water and waste water treatment equipment and how they operate individually and collectively.
- Use Process & Instrumentation Diagrams, Control Narratives, Cause and Effect Diagrams to write, compile and test PLC code using commercially available and proprietary PLC software.
- Design, configure and program HMI screens to support the overall control of the equipment and process.
- Incorporate into the controls package associated data acquisition and reporting features as required by specification.
- Provide input to the Controls Design process to ensure the correct hardware and logic will support the PLC software.
- Plan and coordinate technical design and engineering implementation of project work.
- Configure and troubleshoot the instrument, ensuring communication with the controls package and scaling signals
- Identifying technologies to be used for future applications and extensions of current architectures.
- Act as the project technical lead, at times be responsible for some project management activities . Often works alone at customer’s jobsite and is an integral to achieving owner’s acceptance of the finished project.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate Degree or higher in Electrical Automation, Robotic Technology, or related field or three or more years of experience in a similar position.
- Experience with any of the following PLC’s: Allen Bradly, Modicon, Siemens, AutomationDirect, and Omron.
- Experience with any of the following HMI, or SCADA software packages: AutomationDirect’s C-More, Wonderware, FactoryTalk View ME/SE, Vijeo Citect, Ci-Tech, or equivalent packages.
- Ability to complete domestic and international travel, up to 40%.
- Knowledge of process manufacturing field instrumentation, technology and batch process manufacturing expertise in the following project phases: documentation, detailed design generation, implementation, systems integration, testing and on-site startup.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, time management skills, negotiation skills, and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Broad knowledge and expertise in instrumentation used in water treatment processing.
- Knowledge of water treatment processes and ability to automate the control systems to achieve a steady, consistent chemical dosage.
- Affiliation with any globally recognized Automation, Systems, or Instrumentation organization is a plus.
- Proven track record in programming leadership as well as the ability to develop, implement,and document to standard engineering practices
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit at workstation using computer/phone.
- Frequently required to sit, talk, hear, and see.
- Regularly required to move around the facility.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
