Location: Helsby, Cheshire

The Geosciences division within RSK Group Ltd, is one of the UK’s largest geotechnical and contaminated land consultancies. In addition, it can call on further related resources through RSK Group owning Structural Soils Ltd, the 200-strong site investigation and drilling contracting company. The company now has an exciting opportunity for a Senior/Principal Geo-environmental Engineer to join the growing team in Helsby, Cheshire. Working alongside an experienced team you will get involved with a vast array of development projects.
The company has a wide portfolio of clients in a number of sectors including rail, transport, water and property. In addition, the company are particularly proud of the work that they have undertaken in the nuclear sector where over the last 3 years they have undertaken preliminary and main/intermediate phase site investigations at Hinckley Point and Wylfa on Anglesey. In 2014 the team were heavily involved in the detailed onshore ground investigation of the nuclear new-build at Wylfa, Anglesey culminating in winning Ground Investigation Project of the Year at the 2015 Ground Engineering Awards.

Senior/Principal Geotechnical Engineer
Main Function
A Senior/Principal Consultant is responsible for undertaking project investigations with both a geotechnical and an environmental content as directed by the Project Manager – seeing the Project through from commencement to completion. All Project work must be carried out with due diligence, adhered to by the RSK procedures & completed within the given cost budgets and time scales agreed. Good communication is required to inform/liaise with the client periodically with updates & any issues raised. It is expected that employees working at this grade will have keener project finance awareness, be client facing, self-motivated, exhibit a proactive approach, and work well within a team environment.
Responsibilities:
- Undertaking Preliminary Risk Assessments (Phase 1 Desk Studies) and intrusive site investigations for geotechnical and/or environmental purposes in line with national standards and codes of practice.
- Managing fieldwork activities and subcontractors
- Undertaking Project Management duties and resolving any technical issues
- Writing factual and/or interpretative reports
- Preparing health and safety documentation, booking subcontractors and scheduling soil and water samples for analytical and geotechnical testing
Person specification:
- BSc degree level qualified in Geology or a related subject essential
- MSc in Engineering Geology/Geotechnical Engineering or Contaminated Land related subjects preferable but not essential
- Knowledge of contaminated land and planning legislation would be an advantage
- Experience of undertaking ground investigation for geotechnical purposes
- Able to demonstrate knowledge/experience in the field of geotechnics/engineering geology, including an appreciation of the impact of Eurocode 7
- Experience of working with geotechnical databases and other geotechnical software preferable
- Experience of preparing and assisting with interpretative reports for geotechnical purposes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Prepared to work as part of a team or as an individual
- Candidates must be willing to spend a significant amount of their working day out on site and away from home.
- Full UK driving licence.
